Why Orthodontics?

Patients typically seek orthodontic treatment for one or more of the following reasons: health, esthetics, comfort, function, and/or stability. It is very satisfying for us to witness the improved self esteem and confidence in our patients as they undergo treatment to improve their smiles. With the average Canadian life expectancy now over 80 years of age, there are plenty of good reasons to properly correct poor bites and crooked teeth.

Our goals are to create a pleasing smile, healthier and more functional bite that will benefit the health of your teeth and supporting hard (bone) and soft (gum) tissues. This in turn will lead to the longevity of your teeth and systemic health

(If you have very mal-aligned teeth making it difficult to maintain your oral hygiene, straighter teeth means making it easier to keep your teeth clean. This leads to less gum disease, which has been linked to several very serious medical conditions including heart disease & stroke, respiratory problems, diabetes, osteoporosis and others. Please see http://www.perio.org/consumer/mbc.top2.htm for additional information or speak with either Dr. Shapiro or your family dentist for additional information.)
